I have set up this page purely to track the progress of 106 Rallye 16v. I thought it would be easy to document it on this blog rather than constantly having to put up new posts on all the various websites that I am apart of.
Hopefully we will see the car go from its very sorry state to a, once again, great 106!
I bought the car on the 2nd July 2007 and the progress has been very slow ever since. I spotted it for sale on a local motoring webiste called www.reallymeansounds.com and decided to go have a look at it as it seemed it would be easily fixed. An engine mount and a driveshaft had to be replaced. I wasn’t too worried about that as my dad and i had worked on our 106 GTI rallycar which is basically the same as the Rallye.
Progress over the next few months was slow, but we eventually got the car sent away to have it fixed. Then the bad news came
. Unfortunatley for the car the timing belt had slipped and this meant that after closer inspection with the cylinder head off it showed us that 8 valves were bent. Someone joked with me “ah well its back to standard”. I was gutted to say the least. Rang up the guy i bought the car off and he was very accomodating
The next few pages will show us how the 106 and I get along. Hope you all enjoy!!
Below are pictures that i obtained from Lindsay S2 on the Rallye Register. This is when the car before it made it across the Irish sea. Cheers Linds!
Here are some of my car (middle):

Personal Favourite of mine!

Any progress on your Rallye?
Hi Cris
No movement really. Just getting the engine sorted at the moment. However, i think a change in direction is going to take place. Im going to get it ready for the road this coming summer then after that im taking it off the road and going to get the body work all sorted out as it, at this stage, let the car down an absolute bag full.
What about yours?
Just finished rebuilding the front suspension in a bit to eliminate some annoying knocking noises. Completely polybushed it, but as with almost every job on the Pug not a simple task – ended up having to get a whole new NS wishbone!
Money a bit tight between now and April, but looking forward to moving forward at a faster pace in 2009. The next jobs are mostly cosmetic and treating rust on teh underside. I do need to polybush the rear subframe, so that is my task for January/February. I anticipate lots of cold afternoons in the garage.
I’m also looking into doing a welding course at the local technical college. Need to patch up some rot
