From what i know of the car the Spec is as follows:
Engine:
1.6 16v VTS engine conversion (power output?? unknown. RR day i think!!)
GMC 4-2-1 mild steel manifold
Remapped ECU
Green Air Filter (to be replaced)
Alloy Radiator
S2 Rallye Gearbox (shorter ratios)
Running Gear:
206 GTI front discs (266mm) and calipers
Bilstein Sprintline Suspension (full)
S2 Rallye Gearbox (closer Ratios)
That was the tech spec when i got it (however the engine is missing 8 of its 16 valves). Plans for the car as follows
Future:
New head
New filter system
New backbox for exhaust, keeping this std as i don’t think id put up with a Pugsport.
White 1.9 GTI wheels
Sparco Evo seats with Sabelt Harnesses (6-point for the driver, 4-point for passenger)
Red carpet from a S1 Rallye (yet to arrive)
Sparco suede 3spoke steering wheel
Possibly going to flock the dash as my rally car has it and it will complete the rally(e) look ![]()
OEM 106 GTI rear spoiler
From what I’ve been told, with the remap and the lightness of the car, the car is a real flying machine! So i don’t think anymore engine or power performance mods will be done.
The Bodywork isn’t the best but a visit to the body-shop would sort that out.

This is what i hope to have at the end of the toil:D

“What kinda money these go for? I’d love one for back roads!”
theres a mint blue one on the RR for £3600 with 73k but you can get them from £1600 upwards.
ossy2004
“needs a serious amount of tlc, whats the mileage on it?
from the bottom pic, they turn out really well, goodluck”
The shell has about 120k and the engine had about 60k on it when it was converted.
It does need alot of TLC but it will get it.

“Your a **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** … OK!!!!
But besides that it seems like a neat non rusty one really… The wheels on that other suit it to a T cha’mone… Is this a local car?? There used to be a white one down by the hospital in Ards all the time until a few years ago, was always in good order, i always wondered what happened to it…”
A response i would have expected from such a delirious VTAK owner – its kicked in way too long ago YO!
neil205
“if it looks like the last pic then its definately got my vote, nicest 106 EVER!”
RCT
“Looks like a good wee project. Get stuck in there Nazor! You’ll have a lot of work to do to it. TBH I like them with the white steels on. You can still get them brand new from pug as we have 2 sitting for a guy. The last pic looks good with the speedlines on but I just don’t like them in any colour other than silver/grey, on any pug. Pull that engine out and give the car a real good wash down with degreaser and a hot water pressure washer 1st as it’ll get rid of most of the dirt”
Wayne D
“Good luck with the project, hopefully we will get a meet up or two organised this summer…
Look forward to seeing it all finished.”
Maxwell
“looking good patrick!!
theres a wee white s2 rallye in work…left hooker too”
Mtrhd0024
“nice car mate, should look good when finished, I love the rallye’s… They look ace, and are a pure drivers car…
I know the discussion is kind of old, but definitly put the rallye steelies back on it. Paint them up nice, and throw em back on, will look wicked then.”

“Body and stuff looks to be in good condition, engine obviously needs a bit of tidying but I’d say it’ll come together nicely
Best of luck with it and keep us updated.”

“Mad! Another Patrick owns the car now! Looks like its coming along nicely as well and nice to see it being loved again. I think Patrick (original) lost heart in it and it shows in the condition it was in when it came to you. Good luck with it all

Parts sourced
A few extra Steelies:

“I’ve 3 S1 steels and 2 S2 steels at home if you want them Patrick, they need reconditioned but theres yours for the taking if you want them…”
Exhaust/Gearbox
mi16chris
“i do mate yes u any use for it ? got a 106 xsi gear box hear to needs a diff free if u want it”
Chris even threw in a set of braided brake lines
Wheel debate
I had originally talked about 1.9 GTI wheels
Cess
“Love these cars.
Not feeling the 205 GTi Speedlines. What about Comps or Speedline Turinis or something?
And a set of rear light masks would finish it to a T.”
Nath3n
“no no keep the steelies, get her decked”
metro1800
“Great project and it will absolutely fly when finished. What about a set of Mi16 wheels on it? Only problem is they’ll sit in slightly more than other Pug wheels (different offset)”
Graham
“steels FTW patrick !”
leebo
“Yes you would be mad to get rid of the steels, they look purposeful because they sit out far enough!”
Then mi16chris throws the ultimate spanner in the works with wheels id love to have but cant afford.
mi16chris
“looking good mate ! theres only one wheel to put on it imo PTS SL434″

But again RCT came back with Steels FTW
RCT
“Ive seen the above wheels on a white 205 gti. They do look very well, but at the end of the day it’s a rallye. Steels FTW!”
Honestly i think the car will appear with both at some stage but the 1.9 GTI wheel will be the preferred wheel…..for now.
23rd April 2008
Update – sort of
This is my interior that i got for the car – think it should look really cool when finished…..

….which brings me to the next update. The guy who has had the car for the past 9 months has told me “if you want to get someone else to do the work, don’t think I’ll be offended!” Basically he works on alot of MOT stuff and tractors and is flat out and hasn’t really got the time to look at my car. Remembering that I’m from Tyrone, can anyone recommend someone to fix my car – basically i have all the parts needed for the job i just need someone to do the work. I don’t mind travelling if the person is easy paid
and knows what they are doing.
Then luckily…
mi16chris
“i could sort this in no time mate”
And so a waiting game starts, until chris is ready the car is at home and ive taken some bits and pieces off to get painted. Hopefully I will be able to update in the not too distant future!
3rd June 2008
I went down to lift the car from the original garage and bring the car home. Looked at all the stuff i have gotten for it in the past few months – I’m sure you’ll agree its a lot of stuff! or at least it appears to be. The bodywork is really unimpressive if I’m honest. The passenger side especially but like i said at the top it will be sorted, eventually. Took the steelies and the the mirror caps off as they will be getting painted and the bumpers will also be coming off to get redone whilst the car is in the capable hands of mi16chris.

Also bought some Apex lowering springs giving the car a (hopefully) decent ride height. Initially i wasn’t really bothered by lowering the car but after going to Pugest in Wayne’s 106 I really felt id need to do it. (Wayne’s car really reinvigorated my interest in the Rallye again because for a time i was just going to get rid of it.)
A drop of 35 to 40mm:

Future: Re-evaluation
New head – work to be carried out by mi16chris
New filter system – Raceland induction kit
New backbox for exhaust, keeping this std as i dont think id put up with a Pugsport – got a secondhand system from mi16chris donated from his old GTI
White 1.9 GTI wheels – bought – need to be painted
Sparco Evo seats with Sabelt Harnesses (6-point for the driver, 4-point for passenger) – have now opted for both 4 points as more comfy plus less fowling of the carpet
Red carpet from a S1 Rallye – to be fitted to car
Sparco suede 3spoke steering wheel – to be fitted to car
Flocked Dash - this idea has gone as it would have been more of a luxury than anything plus its hard to keep
OEM 106 GTI rear spoiler – to be fitted to car
So as you can see very little change has been made which is great as often with projects like above compromise becomes a necessary evil.
Hi
I came across your blog today, I am also a 106 enthusiast.
I have a site at http://www.106gti.co.uk and wondered if you would be interested in a link exchange between our sites?
Cheers
Matt
